Sibling Expectations

There was an unexpected problem that came with the twins -- my daugther wanted younger sisters, not younger brothers :(.

Initially, this was not the problem. The first problem was, she wanted to be the baby of the family. So, before we knew the gender of the twins (actually, we didn't even know we had twins then :P) we asked her if she wanted a baby brother or a baby sister. She said she wanted an older sister :O!! That was an unexpected reaction from her! Guess she wanted all the attention she could get as the baby. *sigh*

This was something that my wife & I had not counted on. We had to spend more than a month to slowly get her to come round to accepting the role of a big sister. After we managed to do that, we had another round of coaxing to do.

We brought her along to one of the gynae visits so that she could see her younger siblings for herself & to let her know that she was going to have brothers. Turned out that she wasn't too interested in the ultrasound images. Well, I don't blame her really -- the black & white images probably just looked like random lines & dots to her. She did ask the gynae if he was going to cut open mummy's stomach right then to get the babies out :P.

Oh well... she now knows that she's gonna get brothers. Only thing is, she keeps bugging us (every other day & the boys are not due till mid-September 2005 at least!!) when the babies are coming out, cause she wants to play with them. Wait till she finds out the will be sleeping, crying, poo-pooing, drink milk & repeat; until they get past their first year before they are remotely 'fun'. I know I can wait!! When they come, I can say bye bye to uninterrupted sleep :P.
